Kick off the holiday season with ‘Anastasia’ at the Fox Theatre

One of my favorite holiday traditions in Atlanta is seeing a performance at the Fox Theatre. It’s a wonderful way to get into the holiday spirit – you get all dressed up, admire sparkly lights around midtown, maybe grab a festive beverage before or after the show.

This December, the musical “Anastasia” is playing at the Fox. If you’re like me and are looking to visit the Fox Theatre this holiday season – but have seen “The Nutcracker” one too many times (listen, I love that ballet, but sometimes you just want to see something different, you know?) – consider getting tickets to “Anastasia.”

This engagement runs from December 6 - 11, and it promises to be phenomenal. New York Observer calls “Anastasia” “one of the most gorgeous shows in years!”, and Time Out describes it as “a sweeping adventure, romance, and historical epic whose fine craftsmanship will satisfy musical theater fans.” Add in a beloved storyline, stunning costumes, and a score by Tony Award-winning creators of another Broadway musical, “Ragtime,” and this performance seems to be a sure crowd pleaser.

You might be familiar with the story of “Anastasia” from the 1997 animated film of the same name: A young woman with little to no memory of her childhood tries to uncover the mystery of her (potentially royal) past, from imperial Russia to glitzy 1920s Paris. And I can’t wait to see this story come alive on stage!

I’m taking one of my closest girlfriends to see “Anastasia,” and we’re making a night of it. If you, too, want to see this show as part of a girls night out, check out this post for restaurant recommendations for dinner before the show. All restaurants in this post are within walking distance of the Fox Theatre and are perfect for a girly dinner.

If you don’t have time for dinner but want to grab a drink nearby, consider visiting the Marquee Club at the Fox Theatre. It’s an absolutely spectacular space with great cocktails and even better views of the city, both of which are worth the price of admission.

Tell me: Will you be seeing “Anastasia” at the Fox Theatre this holiday season? If you do go, let me know what you think of the show in the comments below. Enjoy and happy holidays!
