New Taste Tuesday: The Southern Gentleman
Honestly, to summarize the Southern Gentleman in a few words is a bit of a challenge… but I’ll try: Classy yet modern atmosphere, superb cocktails, deconstructed
southern fare served on eclectic china, Chartreuse on tap (more on that in a
minute).
Don’t be fooled by the name: Yes, ladies are welcome at this newly opened Buckhead, Atlanta eatery (and Gypsy Kitchen's sister restaurant!). Don’t be intimidated by the cocktail list either: Yes, it’s
extensive (and slightly overwhelming at first), but your server is happy to make the perfect recommendation.
And when choosing a cocktail, you really can’t go wrong with
anything. I’m not a big brown liquor drinker, but I had the Grit & Grace
and loved it! It’s served in a teacup (!), with a lemon.
The highlight of the cocktail list is the
Chartreuse. Made by French monks, it’s an green earthy liqueur of 130 herbs that pairs
surprisingly well with… Miller High Life! What?
It’s a strange pairing, but it really works, which is perhaps why it gets its own section on the menu. Even more awesome – the Southern Gentleman has Chartreuse on tap! How many bars can say that?

If you’re looking for a quick start to your meal (who doesn't?),
order a few of the snacks. The deviled eggs are an absolute must – I promise, you've never had anything like this dish.
For your main course, the supper menu is chock full of
delicious choices, such as shrimp & grits or duck & dumplings. I had
the buttermilk poached chicken (which is cooked sous vide) and the hubs had the
redfish, both of which you can see in the video below:
