Lip Service: NARS

(c) NARS

I’m not a huge fan of color. OK, it’s more like I’m afraid of color. Of wearing color, that is (love it on my plate though!).

So when I first came across Nars’ summer 2016 collection, I was pretty intimidated: Bright red lip glosses, iridescent turquoise and periwinkle eye shadows, liquid bronzer? I’ve never worn so much color on body, let alone my face.

But with a little bit of education and encouragement from a knowledgeable Nars rep, I rocked a deep red lip out to dinner and the compliments wouldn’t stop pouring in. More importantly, a bottle of sake and countless sushi rolls later, the red gloss hadn’t budged! The color was just as pigmented as when I had first put it on.

I was really impressed!

So, why am I talking about makeup on a food blog? Because some lip colors are more appropriate for certain settings, and I want to help you pick the right one for your next dining experience in Atlanta.

I realize I’m still no expert when it comes to colorful makeup, so if you want professional advice, head to the Nars boutique at the Shops at Buckhead Atlanta, which opened in April.

(Oh, one tiny tip from me: I always start with the brand's Velvet Matte skin tint and finish with Liberation dual-intensity blush duo. You simply can't beat the texture of the former and the blendability of the latter!)

Do Not Disturb lip cover: Wear to Le Bilboquet

The vivid orange-red hue is the perfect shade of flirty. Think T.Swift’s signature lip! Where would Taylor go out to dinner in Atlanta? Probably a classic French restaurant located in the heart of Buckhead!

Members Only lip cover: Wear to Dolce

The darker shade of red is great for a romantic date night. You’ll fit right in at the Italian eatery, which oozes passion and love.

Get Dirty lip cover: Wear to The Southern Gentleman

Yes ma’am, the desert rose tint is proper attire for this proper Southern restaurant. And it won’t come off when you’re sipping cocktails out of tea cups.

Overheated lip cover: Wear to Gypsy Kitchen

The deep dusty rose color is sultry enough for the most exquisite Spanish tapas and the restaurant's equally as enticing decor.
