New Taste Tuesday: Kaleidoscope

Chances are, you’ve heard of/been to Kaleidoscope in Brookhaven. It’s the perfect definition of a neighborhood pub and it’s been there for several years. But it makes this week’s New Taste Tuesday segment because of a new addition to its menu: Wood-oven pizzas!

WHY GO : Because the pizzas are goooooood , you guys! The owner of Kaleidoscrope describes them as a hybrid between Neapolitan-style and New York-style pizzas, which they very much are. The ingredients are fresh and paired in a way that will pleasantly surprise you, but you don’t need a fork and knife to eat the pizza.

THE VIBE : Homey. Casual enough to make you feel relaxed, but classy enough to make your night feel just a little bit special, even if it’s just a random Tuesday.

DRINK THIS : Let the bartender pick for you! Just give them your liquor of preference (gin, rye, vodka, etc.) and a taste profile (not too sweet). You will not be disappointed!

EAT THIS : The Wood Stone-oven pizzas, duh! There are many to choose from, so whether you like spicy, hate red sauce or want a new take on vegetarian, you’ll love the selection.

I tried the charred leek + mushroom pizza, as well as the lando one. The latter is a true meat-lovers’ creation: It comes with pepperoni, fennel sausage and soppressata (a dry Italian salami).

But the charred leek + mushroom pizza was ridic! An unexpected combination of flavors that turned out super delicious. Definitely recommend this one!

If you want something in addition to/instead of pizza, the menu has a wide selection of what the restaurant owner calls “global comfort food.” In other words, it’s Kaleidoscope’s twist on various dishes from around the world.

Before devouring the pizzas, I started with Ahi tuna tartare, which is topped with feta cheese and guacamole, and seasonal spring rolls, which were stuffed with homemade pimento cheese and house-smoked BBQ pork.

FUN FACT: The pizza chef at Kaleidoscope? A former Antico employee! So yeah, you can trust him to make you a very delicious pie.
